South Yorkshire Officers Cycling In The Police Unity Tour
This weekend’s UK Police Unity Tour and COPS Memorial Service are important events in the policing calendar, and South Yorkshire Police officers will be playing their part.
Several South Yorkshire Police officers will be taking part in the Police Unity Tour, a challenging cycling route of around 180 miles, on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 July, which is partly sponsored by the South Yorkshire Police Federation group insurance scheme.
The cyclists will arrive at the Care of Police Survivors (COPS) Memorial Service at the National Memorial Arboretum, Staffordshire on Sunday 30 July, to remember and honour fallen colleagues.
This year is particularly special as the COPS charity is marking its 20th year of supporting the families of police officers and staff who have lost their lives on duty.
South Yorkshire Police Federation Chair Steve Kent said: “These events are so important, they help us remember our colleagues and really raise the profile of the police service.
“We support our officers who are doing this, it’s a fantastic thing. I salute their commitment and hard work – not just doing it but also the logistics involved are very difficult. So they’re an absolute credit to themselves and to the force.”
