National Police Memorial Day

South Yorkshire Police Federation is looking forward to supporting the families of fallen officers at National Police Memorial Day on Sunday 28 September.

The annual event remembers police officers who have been killed or died on duty, and demonstrates to relatives, friends and colleagues of fallen officers that their sacrifice is not forgotten. This year the ceremony is being held at Coventry Cathedral.

South Yorkshire Police Federation Chair Steve Kent said: “I will be going to the National Police Memorial Day alongside Federation Secretary Dave Baines. It is a really sombre affair and always brings a tear to the eye. But it’s really important for us to go there to remember our fallen colleagues, and to support their families. This year we are accompanying a number of local families of our fallen officers.

“It’s so important to remember those we’ve lost, but it’s also important to maintain the police family and the support we can offer. We see the families every year and they say it brings them comfort to have that continuity and support. It’s a wonderful event.”
