Officers To Visit 92 Football Grounds In 92 Hours
THREE South Yorkshire officers are planning to visit all 92 football league clubs in 92 hours to raise money for Sheffield Children’s Hospital Cancer and Leukaemia ward.
Jamie Henderson, Scott Sarson and James Thorpe will drive and cycle during the 2,400-mile journey, which kicks off from Barnsley FC’s Oakwell Stadium. The trio’s last stop will be Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane ground.
They are hoping to raise £25,000 for the charity, a cause close to all their hearts.
South Yorkshire Police Federation Chairman Steve Kent said the trek would be a tremendous effort.
He said: “We are exceptionally proud of them, and I’m also a little bit jealous!
“As a Federation, we’ve supported them with some of the sponsorship towards their costs, and I’ve been really pleased about the way it has gone out across the media.
“It’s for a really, really good cause and is poignant at the moment because there is another police officer whose little one is going through the same thing, which prompted those officers to do this for charity.
“We’ve got little Harrison Walsh who’s the son of a friend of mine, a detective, and his wife is also a detective, and he’s got leukaemia, and he’s in Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
“So, it’s especially poignant, and it’s also especially relevant that they’re doing that because it raises awareness alongside that for Steven and their son Harrison.
“It’s a great thing they’re doing, and we’re all very proud of them.”
