South Yorkshire Officers Celebrated At National Police Bravery Awards
Two courageous South Yorkshire Police officers attended a reception at Downing Street followed by a glittering ceremony for the national Police Bravery Awards 2024.
PC Anna Kelsey and PC Nicola Burn were nominated for the awards following an incident in November 2022, when they were first on the scene at a double murder. A man had killed his elderly parents and was still brandishing the knife, but the officers managed to get the knife off him before discovering the victims.
South Yorkshire Police Federation Chair Steve Kent said that it was “eye-opening” how many of the other nominations from around the country involved stabbing incidents. He said: “I’ve never seen anything like it, it’s terrifying.”
But he said the event was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the courage of police officers from all forces. He added: “Anna and Nicola had a fantastic time, it was absolutely brilliant. They loved being at the ceremony and we were proud to be there with them.”
