South Yorkshire Families To Attend National Police Memorial Day

South Yorkshire Police Federation will be travelling to Wales on Sunday 24th September to pay respect to fallen officers.

This year’s National Police Memorial Day will be held at St David’s Hall in Cardiff, and Chair Steve Kent and colleagues will be travelling alongside a number of family members of fallen South Yorkshire officers.

Among them will be the loved ones of PC Matthew Lannie, who died in a collision in April 2020 while on duty.

Steve said: “It is of critical importance that we attend this event. National Police Memorial Day is a really wonderful service and it’s a time to reflect on our fallen colleagues, not just in South Yorkshire, but from across the country.

“It’s something that we always feel very humble about and we are proud to go and support the families who want to come with us to pay tribute. So we’re looking forward to that. It’s a sad day but, but an important and poignant event and it’s right that it’s done and recognised in this way.”
