Tributes To Heroic Officer

South Yorkshire Police Federation has paid tribute to the heroic officer who lost his life after trying to rescue a man from railway tracks.

Nottinghamshire Police’s Sgt Graham Saville, 46, died after being struck in Balderton, near Newark, in August.

Steve Kent, Federation Chair, said: “It is just the most awful of tragedies when you’ve got an officer who has literally sacrificed his life to try and save members of the public.

“You cannot fathom the sense of loss suffered by his family and colleagues and friends. We’ve reached out to our colleagues in Nottinghamshire Police Federation to offer any support that we can. It’s times like this we remember the unbelievable brave actions of our officers and it’s a sad thing.”

Sgt Saville’s colleagues said his death had left a “huge hole” in the policing family. Officers who worked closely with the father-of-two said his presence would “lift the mood of any shift”.
