Chair: Officers in communities remains key for SYP
NEIGHBOURHOOD policing will be a priority for officers in South Yorkshire in 2018, South Yorkshire Police Federation has said.
Chair Zuleika Payne said that with the new senior command team in post and the review of many aspects of officers’ work, 2018 will be an interesting year.
Zuleika said: “There are many areas of work which are currently being reviewed, including neighbourhood policing, the call handling operation centre, and also our crime processes.
“So what we will see in 2018 is these work streams underway and the formulation of those policing teams.
“We won’t, sadly, see any more money and despite vast swathes of recruiting, ultimately we are not going to end up with more police officers, so the organisation has to be realistic in its aims and objectives.
“It will be interesting to see, as the year unfolds, the impact that this has on the organisation and its officers. We’ve seen the introduction of a new IT system as well, which is intended to enhance our way of working. This is all very new, but ultimately the intention is, that this will improve our way of working.”
