“Policing is still a good, trusted job amongst the public”
SOUTH Yorkshire Police is recruiting and has “exciting opportunities available for experienced officers to join a forward thinking, modern Police Force who provide a wide range of career opportunities and development.”
Neil Bowles, Chairman of South Yorkshire Police Federation, said the force continues to recruiting as “more officers are leaving, either through retirement or mid-service to do something else, so the force needs to recruit just to keep on target of their own reductions.”
Applications from the force are being sought from both Police Constables and Detective Constables. Detective Constables must be PIP 2 accredited with experience in public protection, proactive crime and reactive crime.
Mr Bowles added: “Policing is still a good job, it’s a trusted job amongst the public, it’s a needed job, it’s a very rewarding job. It’s just not the job that I joined thirty years ago, but there again if you come across someone who was approaching retirement when I joined he’d probably say the same thing to me.
“Policing is required, and it’s a very worthwhile career for people who want to join. And we’ve got a lot of local people do want to join the police, and as for transferring, well obviously people want to transfer back to where they or their family comes from, so yeah we’d welcome them with open arms.”
Meanwhile the force is also looking to recruit more Special constables.
Mr Bowles added: “That was always a long term plan of visibility, as they call it, that if we’ve got more Specials it looks like we’ve got more cops. Specials have their place, as complimentary to regular officers, but they’re not designed to replace them.”
