THE Chairman of South Yorkshire Police Federation has said that welcoming officers back into force after retirement is a great way of holding on to experience.<\/p>\n
An article by the Star said that South Yorkshire Police are actively seeking ways to bring retired officers back into service to help plug experience gaps whilst the force rolls out the first tranche of 20,000 additional officers nationally as promised by the Government.<\/p>\n
Steve Kent, South Yorkshire Federation Chairman, said that he couldn\u2019t see many downsides to holding on to retired officers experience if they were up for returning to the job.<\/p>\n
He said \u201cThe 30 plus scheme means when officers are either just retired or are retiring in a certain time, then force is looking at asking those people to come back.<\/p>\n
\u201cObviously, it\u2019s an individual decision for anybody, but if it would suit the individuals lifestyle, and they don\u2019t feel that they want to hang up their handcuffs yet, then I think we\u2019d welcome their service and their experience. I don\u2019t see many downsides to it as long as individuals want to do it.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are people out there who love the job and they want to do it. So, we\u2019re retaining people\u2019s good experience.\u201d<\/p>\n
