South Yorkshire Police Federation has said it will continue to hold the national Federation to account, and that there needed to be more devolution of power to local branches.<\/p>\n
Last month, Tiff Lynch, Chair of the Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW), announced that the Federation was changing, with a structured plan to reform governance, strengthen its finances, change its culture, and improve the services it provides to the officers it represents. It will appoint Independent Non-Executive Directors; establish a Remuneration Committee to establish transparent, benchmarked pay; and a Nominations Committee will oversee appointments to the board.<\/p>\n
PFEW\u2019s initiatives for members include a new Victims and Witness Support Programme, and it is working to better support Fed Reps, giving more opportunity for development as well as expanded welfare support.<\/p>\n
South Yorkshire Police Federation Chair Steve Kent said he supported Tiff Lynch as national Chair, but that he would continue to hold PFEW to account as they made improvements.<\/p>\n
Steve said: \u201cThe national Federation is trying to change, and we locally are holding it to account to make sure that it changes, because locally branches do seem to have the support of their members, but there is a barrier with the national Federation. I’m trying to bridge that gap.<\/p>\n
\u201cI do think the national Federation needs to empower and to support local branches more, which do a huge amount of work at the ground level. There has to be a level of devolution to the local branches \u2013 they’re the ones out there speaking to officers and having positive interactions and supporting officers positively. I know that Tiff has got a really positive vision for that.\u201d<\/p>\n
