A PC who faced down a killer and brought him to justice received huge praise during a prestigious awards evening.<\/p>\n
Jess Witton, from South Yorkshire Police, acted swiftly to enter a property during the incident near Doncaster in 2023, despite the threat it posed to her life.<\/p>\n
Her courage was rewarded by the force\u2019s Federation during its National Police Bravery Awards, with Chair Steve Kent saying: \u201cIt\u2019s a remarkable thing that she went in there.\u201d<\/p>\n
Steve said the incident, which a woman tragically lost her life in, was \u201chorrendous\u201d and that Jess was a worthy winner of the overall bravery award.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cJess is somebody who plays it down because she\u2019s so modest, but she did go into that property on her own.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just a remarkable thing, and the fact it\u2019s the second time she\u2019s been to our awards just speaks volumes.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s an absolute testament to her personality and I\u2019m really pleased that she\u2019s off to London to represent our force.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think Jess is a reminder to us that there is still a lot of love for the job out there and people are very proud of what they do.\u201d<\/p>\n
The awards evening was a huge success, with the force\u2019s bravest and best represented throughout the occasion.<\/p>\n
Steve said he was \u201cabsolutely over the moon\u201d to share the finest work of officers.<\/p>\n
He continued: \u201cThe most important thing is the officers who got the awards were all really excited by it and fully enjoyed the night.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt gives us great exposure to the things that our officers do week in, week out, which often get forgotten by the public and the media.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were the first northern force to start these awards and I\u2019m still very proud of them.\u201d<\/p>\n
