Policing across South Yorkshire is \u201cstretched to the limit\u201d because of chronic underfunding, the county\u2019s police Federation has said.<\/p>\n
Chair Steve Kent said cops were working on the red line and warned \u201cit can\u2019t go on\u201d.<\/p>\n
He warned: \u201cYou\u2019re going to wear people out, you\u2019re going to burn people out and you\u2019re going to break officers. This is what is happening.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Federation Chair revealed senior officers and chief inspectors were close to burnout having worked 60-hour weeks.<\/p>\n
He praised the efforts of South Yorkshire Police officers for overachieving despite the dire working environment.<\/p>\n
Steve added: \u201cWe are on of the best performing forces, or have been in the country, with some of the fewest resources.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re doing the best we can with what little we\u2019ve got. There needs to be significant growth throughout all ranks \u2013 not just PCs and sergeants.<\/p>\n
\u201cWithout that, it\u2019s just going to carry on like this and we\u2019re just going to go round this merry-go-round again.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not fair on our cops and it\u2019s not fair for the public of South Yorkshire who don\u2019t get anywhere near the same resources as other parts of the country. It\u2019s just not acceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n
