This weekend\u2019s UK Police Unity Tour and COPS Memorial Service are important events in the policing calendar, and South Yorkshire Police officers will be playing their part.<\/p>\n
Several South Yorkshire Police officers will be taking part in the Police Unity Tour, a challenging cycling route of around 180 miles, on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 July, which is partly sponsored by the South Yorkshire Police Federation group insurance scheme.<\/p>\n
The cyclists will arrive at the Care of Police Survivors (COPS) Memorial Service at the National Memorial Arboretum, Staffordshire on Sunday 30 July, to remember and honour fallen colleagues.<\/p>\n
This year is particularly special as the COPS charity is marking its 20th year of supporting the families of police officers and staff who have lost their lives on duty.<\/p>\n
South Yorkshire Police Federation Chair Steve Kent said: \u201cThese events are so important, they help us remember our colleagues and really raise the profile of the police service.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe support our officers who are doing this, it\u2019s a fantastic thing. I salute their commitment and hard work \u2013 not just doing it but also the logistics involved are very difficult. So they\u2019re an absolute credit to themselves and to the force.\u201d<\/p>\n
