{"id":295696,"date":"2022-09-05T12:54:07","date_gmt":"2022-09-05T12:54:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sypfcopperconnection.co.uk\/?p=295696"},"modified":"2022-09-05T12:54:07","modified_gmt":"2022-09-05T12:54:07","slug":"federation-calls-for-consistent-pay-rises","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sypfcopperconnection.co.uk\/?p=295696","title":{"rendered":"Federation Calls For Consistent Pay Rises"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"m_-2983093092542077471Default\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">THE Chair of South Yorkshire Police Federation has called for consistent police officer pay rises for the foreseeable future to make up for a decade of below-inflation increases.<\/span>\u00a0<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-2983093092542077471Default\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Steve Kent was speaking after the Home Secretary awarded a\u00a0<\/span>\u00a3<span lang=\"EN-US\">1,900 increase for all officers \u2013 which kicked in on 1 September.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-2983093092542077471Default\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Steve said the increase was welcome, in the light of years of lower increases, but warned that it was\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"RTL\" lang=\"AR-SA\">\u201c<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">divisive<\/span>\u201d<span lang=\"EN-US\">, because the increase amounts to a less than 5% increase for long-in-service and higher ranking officers.<\/span>\u00a0<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-2983093092542077471Default\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">He said:\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"RTL\" lang=\"AR-SA\">\u201c<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">I have a mixed reaction really. I expected worse; I expected low percentages. I didn<\/span><span dir=\"RTL\" lang=\"AR-SA\">\u2019<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">t expect to get that specific figure that we<\/span><span dir=\"RTL\" lang=\"AR-SA\">\u2019<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">ve got. So it<\/span><span dir=\"RTL\" lang=\"AR-SA\">\u2019<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">s an improvement on what we<\/span><span dir=\"RTL\" lang=\"AR-SA\">\u2019<\/span>ve got.\u00a0<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-2983093092542077471Default\"><span dir=\"RTL\" lang=\"AR-SA\">\u201c<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">But this has got to be the mere beginning. It cannot be a bonus sort of payment, before dropping back down to 2% next year. This has got to be followed by consistent funding, when it comes to police pay. And we<\/span><span dir=\"RTL\" lang=\"AR-SA\">\u2019<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">ve got to see the continuation next year.<\/span>\u201d<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-2983093092542077471Default\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">However, Steve said he was encouraged by the fact that the Home Secretary adopted the recommendations of the Police Remuneration Review Body.<\/span>\u00a0<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-2983093092542077471Default\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">He added:\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"RTL\" lang=\"AR-SA\">\u201c<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">If they do that going forward without hamstringing them, then that will be a great thing. I<\/span><span dir=\"RTL\" lang=\"AR-SA\">\u2019<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">m just cynical. We need to have a commitment from government going forward that they will be giving the PRRB a free reign &#8211; and only then it will be fit for purpose.<\/span><u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-2983093092542077471Default\"><span dir=\"RTL\" lang=\"AR-SA\">\u201c<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">We need to see consistent pay rises of this nature for the foreseeable future to redress the
