TWO police officers have been praised for their courage and selflessness when they saved a man from a freezing cold reservoir on a cold November night.<\/p>\n
At around 8.10pm on Sunday 6 November, police received a call from a member of the public expressing concerns for a man at Dam Flask, five miles west of Sheffield.<\/p>\n
PC Mike Smith and PC Rebecca Worth were dispatched to the area and began searching the footpaths and open water in a bid to locate the man.<\/p>\n
After a short time searching with poor visibility, the eagle eyes of PC Worth spotted the man unmoving in the reservoir. PC Smith then made the selfless decision to bravely enter the freezing water and pull the man to safety.<\/p>\n
Once the man was safely back on dry land, the officers administered first aid while they waited for ambulance crews to arrive.<\/p>\n
The man was then taken to hospital where he received treatment for hypothermia. He has since made a full recovery.<\/p>\n
Acting Inspector Louise Lambert, who was in command that night, has commented on the heroic actions of both officers:<\/p>\n
She said: \u201cThe joint effort and commitment of both PC Smith and PC Worth saved the man\u2019s life and demonstrates the calibre of officers we have on the force.<\/p>\n
\u201cPC Smith showed tremendous courage and gallantry, by putting his own life at risk and going above and beyond his duty, to save someone else.<\/p>\n
