SOUTH Yorkshire Police Federation is offering \u201cfull support\u201d to colleagues injured in a machete attack \u2013 as they begin the long recovery.<\/p>\n

Neil Bowles, Chairman of South Yorkshire Police Federation, said Fed representatives are in touch with all the officers.<\/p>\n

And he added that\u00a0the Force, the officers and the Federation have been \u201coverwhelmed\u201d with the amount of support and best wishes coming from across the world since the attacks.<\/p>\n

Mr Bowles said the Federation\u2019s discipline liaison officer \u2013 who used to work with PC Lisa Bates \u2013 had visited her this week \u201cand found her in good spirits\u201d. He added that \u201cwe have of course offered her all our support for her recuperation\u201d.<\/p>\n

He also added that the other officer injured in the incident has been offered the Federation\u2019s full support.<\/p>\n

Generous colleagues have set up two collections for the injured officers.<\/p>\n

An online collection which aimed to raise \u00a3200 for the officers –\u00a0https:\/\/crowdfunding.justgiving.com\/Bgroupheroes<\/a>\u00a0– has at the time of writing received \u00a37,445 in donations.<\/p>\n

The second is a cash collection at all South Yorkshire stations for fellow officers and staff to donate.<\/p>\n

Mr Bowles added: \u201cCareful consideration has to be given to how these monies should be used to assist which officers. The Federation would be happy to help the members who have organised this if they so wish.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chief Constable David Crompton told The Star: \u201cThe reaction of the public has been fabulous. It\u2019s been lovely to see the support and the good wishes and I thank people for their generosity and kind words.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt really does make a difference, not just to Lisa and the others involved, but more generally. It\u2019s nice to know that when the chips are down we have the public\u2019s support.<\/p>\n

\u201cDeep down people still have respect for police officers and appreciate the courageous job they do.\u201d<\/p>\n
