Tributes to former South Yorkshire Police Federation Chairman

TRIBUTES have been paid to a former South Yorkshire Police Federation Chairman who has passed away.

Bob Lax died on the 15th September following a long battle with cancer. He was 76 years old. Bob was a well-known and much-loved member of the force, and spent many years representing officers in his role at the Federation.

He held a number of roles across his career, but was happiest when he was working in traffic, where he retired as a Superintendent in 1993.

Steve Kent, Federation Chair, said: “Bob faithfully served the Federation for a number of years including a period as Chair in the late 80s during some of the force’s most difficult times. Most of his active service within South Yorkshire was spent in the traffic department from where he retired as a Superintendent in the early 90s. He will be greatly missed by friends and family.”

Bob’s funeral will be held at the South Chapel of Grenoside Crematorium at 1.30pm on Monday 30 September 2019, and following on at the Red Lion, Grenoside (on the A61). Anyone who wishes to attend will be welcome.

The family have asked for no flowers, but said that donations in Bob’s name can be made to Rotherham Hospice or to Prostate Cancer UK.
