South Yorkshire Team Run 3,000 Miles For Police Charity

A TEAM of South Yorkshire Police officers, staff and their families have been presented with medals for completing nearly 3,000 miles in the Run to Remember challenge 2019.

The challenge is run annually by the PC Nicola Hughes Memorial Fund, which raises money to support children and young people affected by the loss of a loved one through violent crime. Teams can run 50, 100 or 200 miles over the course of 100 days.

On Tuesday 27 August, a medal presentation ceremony was held for SYP officers, staff and their families who took part in this year’s challenge. As the biggest team nationally, Team SYP consisted of 18 officers – including four under 16s – and raised over £600 in sponsorship.

The team collectively ran 2,850 miles over 100 days, with 11 of the team completing the full 200-mile challenge – including one of the under 16s.

Assistant Chief Constable Lauren Poultney and Bryn Hughes, father of PC Nicola Hughes, presented participants with their medals and certificates for completing the challenge.

In November this year, Bryn is running the New York marathon with 60 Police Officers from around the country. Their fundraising efforts will go towards funding four university placements.
