Overall Bravery Winner For South Yorkshire Announced
The fifth annual South Yorkshire Police Federation Bravery Awards, in association with the National Police Healthcare Scheme, were held on 21 May.
Guests at the awards ceremony heard about the incredible acts of bravery carried out by South Yorkshire Police officers, including saving a woman’s life after she was hit by a train; single-handedly detaining a violent drunk driver; and rescuing a man from a burning motorcycle.
The overall winner was PC James Robson, who was off-duty on a dog walk when he tackled a knife-wielding man. PC Robson will travel to London for the National Police Federation Bravery Awards in July.
South Yorkshire Police Federation Chair Steve Kent said: “It was a fantastic, universally popular night – all the officers I spoke to absolutely loved it.
“But also, our Bravery Awards has led to millions of impressions on social media, counteracting all the negative press that’s out there. So as well as recognising our brave cops and giving them a night out, it also sends a message out to the public about some of the outstanding jobs our officers do.
“It was a great night as always, and we’re already looking forward to next year.”
