South Yorkshire Police Federation Launches Fifth Bravery Awards

The fifth annual South Yorkshire Police Federation Bravery Awards ceremony is taking place on Thursday 21 May, to celebrate the outstanding courage and commitment of the force’s officers.

Federation Chair Steve Kent said: “Our Bravery Awards are massively important – it’s our flagship event.

“The media’s obsession with negativity about policing is really boring, and cops are fatigued by the negativity that they face. This is the exact opposite, sharing stories of amazing courage and commitment in policing. And then those stories are shared in the media. It is also a wonderful opportunity to thank our officers for going above and beyond.”

The past few Bravery Awards had attracted hundreds of thousands of social media hits, said Steve, who added: “That’s huge, because the public needs to read about how good our cops are, and they seem to love it. And the cops need to read about how good their colleagues are, because cops get a real boost by seeing good news stories.

“It’s also fantastic to reward the officers with a slap-up dinner. They’ve earned it, and I can’t wait for the event.”
