Long Covid Officers Need Support

It is “absolutely vital” that police officers suffering with the effects of long Covid should be supported, South Yorkshire Police Federation has said.

It followed Oscar Kilo, the National Police Wellbeing Service, publishing guidance on how to tackle challenges brought on by the condition.

Federation Chair Steve Kent said it was currently a “mixed bag” between what forces understood and what they did not.

He revealed SYP had officers who were struggling with long Covid and required support with managing their symptoms.

Steve said: “We have supported colleagues with long Covid in the past and we’ll continue to do so.

“It’s absolutely vital that the force puts in reasonable adjustments and supports these officers to try and keep them in the workplace and as comfortable as they can.”

Steve urged people who needed extra help to reach out to the Federation as support was available.

He added: “If there’s anyone who needs to come to us, then approach one of the reps, approach ourselves, and we’ll make sure the force are doing everything properly.”
