Policing Is Still Being Attacked By The Media

New figures suggesting only 40% of people in England trust their police force have been influenced by media attacks on policing, South Yorkshire Police Federation has said.

The poll, whose results were published in the journal Policing and Society, found that only four out of 10 people in England said they trust the police, with the Metropolitan Police getting the lowest confidence score.

South Yorkshire Police Federation Chair Steve Kent said: “That figure has been influenced by the media and politicians’ disproportionate obsession with police malpractice.

“The actions of the tiniest of minorities get the biggest headlines, and there is a real forgetfulness of the unbelievable work that 99.999% of our cops do every day.

“We’ve got the best police in the world, who do so much with so little, and it’s about time the media and politicians started showing some gratitude to our officers in this country.”
