Looking Forward To Our Bravery Awards

The South Yorkshire Police Federation Bravery Awards 2024, held on 23 May, will celebrate the actions of the force’s bold and courageous officers.

Federation Chair Steve Kent said it was always a “brilliant day” in the policing calendar and that officers deserved recognition for their actions, which often involved saving people’s lives.

He said: “It’s one of the very few occasions where something is a uniquely positive experience. You add up all the interactions on Facebook and other social media platforms afterwards, and tens of thousands of people are touched by it.

“I can’t emphasise enough how important it is to have the yin to the yang of negativity that we see every day in the newspapers, because we need to pump out positivity. It’s a challenge because the media doesn’t always want to hear good news. But in terms of our bravery stories, they really do.

“Some of our last bravery award nominations went on national BBC news last year, and that’s the kind of good exposure that our officers need. I can’t wait for the event; we’re all looking forward to it.”
