South Yorkshire Police Federation Bravery Awards Coming Soon

THE second annual South Yorkshire Police Federation Bravery Awards will be held on 25 May.

Following the success of last year’s inaugural awards ceremony, South Yorkshire Police Federation Chair Steve Kent said it was a great opportunity to celebrate officers’ brave actions, and he hoped there would be many nominees.

The 2022 winners were PC Paul Reeder, PC Gary Reece and PS Stuart Greatwood, who swam out in freezing water in a courageous attempt to save two men from a car in a river. They then represented the force at the National Police Bravery Awards in London.

Steve said: “There’s so much negativity out there about policing and we don’t celebrate the 99% of the time that officers are doing great things. Last year was a good opportunity for us to push out these really positive stories, and celebrate the unbelievable actions of some of our officers.

“And most importantly, all the officers, without exception, absolutely loved that night. We gave officers a night to go to something and actually enjoy themselves for a change. We should be celebrating these officers who do great things.

“The winners of this award will be our nominees for the national Police Bravery Awards, they’ll be off to London later in the year. So we hope to get as many nominations as we can through the door.”
