Federation Set To Remember Fallen Officer At National Police Memorial Day

SOUTH Yorkshire Police Federation will be travelling to Northern Ireland later this month to remember fallen colleagues at National Police Memorial Day.

The ceremony, to be held on 25 September in Belfast, will see families, police officers and dignitaries meet to honour officers who have lost their lives on duty.

Steve Kent, who will be attending as Chair, said: This is a really important date in the policing calendar. It is a showcase event that really does highlight the ultimate sacrifice that officers make on duty.

Its a wonderful event for family members and friends of fallen officers and it is always very poignant. It always brings a tear to an eye. But what is nice is that when we go were still supporting a family from an officer who died a long time ago who was actually on attachment to our force. He wasnt one of our officers, but he was attached to our force, and were still supporting that officers family members.

Its a really good thing and the right thing to do. And its always an honour and privilege to be there.
