Lucky seven South Yorkshire sergeants pass promotion exam
A TOTAL of seven sergeants from South Yorkshire Police have seen success in the first step on the ladder to promotion to inspector, the College of Policing has confirmed.
Official results released this month showed that 28% of officers at the force who took the National Police Promotions Framework Step Two Inspectors’ Legal Examination in October have passed.
A total of 1,620 officers sat the exam across England and Wales and 52 per cent (939 candidates) were successful.
The assessment, used by police forces in England and Wales, saw an increase in the numbers sitting the exam by 12 per cent compared with 2014.
There was an increase in the pass rate compared with last year’s 43%.
National representation of male and female candidates was consistent with previous years.
There was a significant difference observed in the success rates of male and female candidates, with females achieving a higher success rate of 60% (259 successful candidates) compared with the pass rate of 50% for males (654 successful candidates).
Overall representation of minority ethnic candidates remains consistent with previous years.
Minority ethnic candidates achieved a success rate of 53% (62 successful candidates) while white ethnic candidates had a pass rate of 52% (872 successful candidates).
Louise Meade, Head of Selection and Assessment at the College of Policing, said: “Congratulations to all of the successful candidates who have passed our examination and will now be working toward the next step of promotion to the rank of inspector.
“The College recognises the effort and dedication that officers put in before attending the assessment and we hope those who were not successful this time will continue their hard work towards promotion.
“The NPPF was introduced this year and allows forces and candidates to be confident that there is national oversight of the promotion process, particularly on how officers attain new skills relevant to their role and rank.”
The 2015 NPPF Step Two Inspectors’ Legal Examination is a multiple choice question examination, testing candidates’ knowledge and application of law, evidence and procedure relevant to the roles of sergeant and inspector.
The 150-question paper comprises the first stage of the promotion system used by police forces within England and Wales for promotion between the ranks of sergeant to inspector.
