National Police Memorial Day To Remember PC Matt Lannie
THE National Police Memorial Day – taking place in Lincoln on 26 September after being postponed last year – is “a wonderful but emotional day to remember our fallen officers”, South Yorkshire Police Federation Chair Steve Kent said.
This year the Federation will be remembering South Yorkshire Police roads officer PC Matt Lannie, who died in a collision in the line of duty while responding to an emergency in April 2020.
Steve said: “We’ll be attending and we’re also taking Matt’s family members because, sadly, after Matt passed away last year they weren’t able to attend a Memorial Day because of the pandemic. So it’s really important to get them to the service. It’s such a wonderful but emotional day to remember our fallen officers.
“It’s absolutely important that we do this and that we go to support the families who are there.”
Numbers at this year’s National Police Memorial Day are limited due to COVID, but Steve said he hoped that next year they could take more family members of fallen officers.
